The goals of psychoanalytic psychotherapy (a specific type of psychodynamic psychotherapy) are more ambitious. It is a therapeutic intervention that also provides symptom relief but it does so by exploring and addressing the underlying causes themselves of which the symptoms are the consequence. Through the therapeutic alliance (the new relationship that you and I develop) you gain a deeper understanding of your motivations, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as well as how and why you relate to others the way that you do. This includes helping you gain insight into how previous experiences from your family of origin continue to influence you in the present. The combination of new insight and new experience allows you the opportunity to develop healthier ways of experiencing yourself and the world around you for greater fulfillment in your life.
I also provide treatment for those individuals who have co-occurring disorders, sometimes referred to as dual diagnosis, when a person has both an addiction and another mental health condition such as depression or anxiety. Dual diagnosis treatment is not a form of psychotherapy per se, but is a strategy of utilizing combinations of psychotherapies simultaneously to assist clients with co-occurring disorders.
GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE: Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, or at any time during treatment. I will provide you with Good Faith Estimate upon initiating therapy. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. I will also keep a copy in my secure records. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, or how to dispute a bill, see your Estimate, or visit WWW.CMS.GOV/NOSURPRISES.
